Ser is one of the two main Spanish verbs meaning “to be.” It is used for identity, origin, defining characteristics, time, and relationships.
Use ser when you identify what someone or something is: a profession, nationality, material, relationship, date, or time. For location, use estar—except when you are saying where an event takes place.
